Family Promise of
Jacksonville
FUMC serves as
a host church for Family Promise. As a host church we provide meals
and shelter to homeless families for one week at a time on a
rotational basis. There are two ways you can volunteer with
Family Promise. Visit the Family Promise website at
www.familypromisejax.org.

Host Week Volunteer:
Overnight hosts, day hosts, dinner providers, evening hosts,
and moreare
needed. Our next host week is
August 5th-12th
Please contact the church office if you would like to volunteer. Click

Office Volunteer:
Help is needed in the Family Promise office (located at
First UMC) 3-4 hours in the morning. Volunteers are needed
weekly and monthly. Responsibilities may include answering
phones, helping with mailings, and letting guests in and out.

Services (DESC)
DESC partners with
Jacksonville churches to provide emergency relief to people in need.
Currently DESC has the following volunteer opportunities:

Volunteers in
Medicine
The Volunteers in
Medicine Jacksonville Clinic is a volunteer run medical clinic that
provides primary medical services to the working uninsured of
Greater Jacksonville. Front desk and data entry volunteers are
needed.

The
Bridge of Northeast
Florida
The Bridge of NE
Florida, Inc. is dedicated to the development of healthy,
productive, self-sufficient youth and families by providing
comprehensive educational, social and health programs to children,
youth and families in need. There are many opportunities to serve
at the Bridge including mentoring and providing birthday parties for
the students.

I.M.
Sulzbacher Center
The I.M. Sulzbacher Center
for the Homeless provides housing, health care and supportive
services for homeless men, women and children. Volunteers are
needed to serve meals and tutor children.

Second
Harvest Food Bank
SHFB distributes food to
member agencies that provide direct food assistance to the public.
Volunteers are needed to sort donated food items and prepare
individual food boxes for distribution

Habijax
HabiJax is the local affiliate of
Habitat for Humanity International. Habijax is an ecumenical
Christian housing ministry that builds affordable houses with God's
people in need. FUMC will have specific workdays throughout the
year. There are also weekly and monthly opportunities to serve.
